St. Mary Magdalene

The patron saint of our church and a faithful witness to the Resurrection of Christ.

St. Mary Magdalene

Our Patron Saint

St. Mary Magdalene is one of the most prominent and beloved saints in the Christian tradition. She is the patron saint of our church and holds a place of great honor in the Coptic Orthodox Church. Her unwavering devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ and her role as a witness to His Resurrection make her an enduring example of faith and love.

Biblical Significance

  • Healed by Christ: Our Lord Jesus Christ cast out seven demons from Mary Magdalene, transforming her life completely (Luke 8:2).
  • Faithful Follower: She was among the women who followed Jesus and supported His ministry throughout Galilee (Luke 8:1-3).
  • Present at the Cross: She stood faithfully at the foot of the Cross during the Crucifixion when many others had fled (John 19:25).
  • First Witness to the Resurrection: She was the first person to see the risen Christ on Easter morning and was entrusted with proclaiming the good news to the apostles (John 20:11-18).
  • Apostle to the Apostles: The early Church Fathers gave her the title “Equal to the Apostles” for her role in announcing the Resurrection.

Feast Day

The Coptic Orthodox Church commemorates St. Mary Magdalene on the 6th of Mesra (August 12 in the Gregorian calendar). On this day, the church celebrates her life, her devotion to Christ, and her role as a witness to the Resurrection. Special prayers and hymns are offered in her honor during the liturgical services.

Legacy of Faith

St. Mary Magdalene's story is one of transformation, devotion, and courage. She reminds us that no matter our past, God's grace can transform us into faithful witnesses of His love. Her example inspires our parish community to pursue holiness, serve others, and proclaim the good news of Christ's Resurrection.
