His Holiness Pope Tawadros II was enthroned as the 118th Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark on November 18, 2012. He succeeded His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, who reposed on March 17, 2012.

Born Wagih Sobhi Baki Soliman on November 4, 1952, in Mansoura, Egypt, Pope Tawadros graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Alexandria University. He worked as a pharmacist and manager at a pharmaceutical company before devoting his life fully to the service of God.

He entered the Monastery of St. Pishoy in Wadi El-Natrun and was ordained a monk in 1988, taking the name Tawadros (Theodore). He was consecrated as General Bishop in 1997 and served the church in various capacities before his papal selection.
